Today we started the morning by going to a German History Museum called Deutsches Historishes Museum. It started with information about the region before it became Germany and went all the way through the end of WWII and when the Berlin Wall was torn down. There were some pretty interesting things in the museum like suits of armor (one of which we could pick up, it was ridiculously heavy), floor to ceiling paintings of royalty, a printing press, a lot of information about the Holocaust, and a display of what east and west Berlin were like after the wall was torn down.

Going through this museum was really interesting especially seeing how they incorporated the Holocaust into their history. Our professor has told us multiple times, and we've witnessed, that the Holocaust is kind of a touchy topic in Germany. However, walking through this museum it never seemed that they were trying to hide anything. It constantly felt like they were just trying to supply the public with information about their country and their culture, and despite the fact that the Holocaust is a rough topic for any one I think they did a really good and really thorough job of covering everything.

When we got to the section where the Nazis started to come into power there were some Nazi uniforms and some propaganda posters. As we progressed through the museum there was a model of a gas chamber and a lot of pictures from concentration camps and of people that died in the concentration camps. There was one picture in particular that caught my attention because it was of group of Jews at Auschwitz and one of the men looks like he is trying really hard to maintain his identity through all of the tough things that he is going through.

After we went to the German History Museum we went to the Berliner Dom which is a really big cathedral.
